there is a cat and it could be a dog in the distance. memories as a child of this style of military patrolling (NI) when half of the troops would split walking backwards.
  • Carol Maddock said:
Foxglove I'm probably lucky. Never saw that (NI) patrolling in person, just on television.

Foxglove Carol Maddock One of my memories of cycling through Newry (on my way from Rosslare to Larne) some time in the early 1990s was of 4 soldiers escorting a policemen on his beat. There were 2 on each side of the road, ahead and behind the policeman, looking around them and moving from doorway to doorway. What struck me most was that the locals (including the policeman) were going about their business as if the soldiers weren't there. I suppose that for them it was just part of everyday life.

Tending to the elephant

    wow! royal treatment! :D

this is very sad, the elephant is skinny, distressed and obviously underfeed.

The elephant is holding up its foot to have its shoe fitted. If it were distressed I doubt if the man would be too keen on having its foot resting in his knee. It is probably one of Bostock's famous elephants which all had long happy lives, and were very well fed.

Thw humans are sqauting uncomfortably, arduous labor to make an animals feet comfortsale. Wonder if they had decent wages and accomodations. Wonder if the humans were warm in winter and cool in summer tending to the animals.
