Mwahahahaaa! So, what've we got? Looking west or south-west. It's a turf bog. Village on a hill behind. Another village at the foot of the hill with what looks like a public toilet but is probably some sort of municipal building - a school maybe? I shall see what I can find.

In Google or Bing aerial views, the bogs appear bright orange or brown. To the East of Ballymena, the countryside gets too hilly. I fancy this bog to the West.

I know that this must have been very hard work, but there is something about this photo and how relaxed they all look, as well as the magnificent scenery, that makes me think it would also have been a great day for all involved...

Been there, done that. My father in law was cutting, my wife was in her bare feet in the hole tossing the turfs out and my mother in law and I were futting the turf. We were liberally doused with old perfume to keep the midges at bay. We travelled to the bog in a split screen Morris Minor.
