Congratulation for your beautiful Album.

One of ten houses burned down on January 12th 1887. The tenants owed rents over a long period but had nothing to pay it so they were homeless in the depth of winter. The landlord Winn was broke, having no rents and having squandered a great deal. His title passed to Rowland Allinson Winn, Lord Headley. He had been an engineer in India and became a Muslim. He was the first Muslim to sit in the House of Lords, styling himself as Sheikh Ramatullah al Farouq. Incidentally, the original landlord had built a castle which is still to be seen and known as Winn's Folly; for though servants stayed in it for a time it was never really habitable. The reason is that the architect who had already designed Dromore Castle was head over heels in love with the actress Ellen Terry and found it difficult to think straight. Compelling images

L_ROY_01767 and L_ROY_01768 both show one and the same house yet one is "Michael Connells"and the other "Mathias McGraths" ......neither resemble the above. Looks like all the tenants/houses are mixed up. Birmingham, McGrath, Connell- Partick and Michael- so its very hard to know exactly who's house is which.

I wonder could this have been taken at the entrance to Elmhall Belcarra, Castlebar in 1886. The gate lodge on left could be the house that's now restored as the Elmhall eviction house.. maps.app.goo.gl/paRFnh6YzMWA4H7FA In 1886 the Connaught Telegraph documented an eviction which took place at Elm Hall, Belcarra, near Castlebar, where the Walshe family was evicted by the landlord's agents, Gardiner, Pringle and Cuffe. On Saturday last, the savage crew, composed of Gardiner, Pringle, Cuffe and 50 or 60 policemen with three or four officers and a paid magistrate attended at Tully and Elmhall and succeeded in evicting two wretched families. There is nothing remarkable to be noted in the proceeding of the day further than we mentioned last week - that John Garvey and James Walshe were turned adrift and that the heartless wretch Gardiner assisted her bastard relation in removing the furniture from the cabin.
