Another copy, at archive.org/stream/etiologyoftyphus00plotrich#page/n1/mod... indicates that "The etiology of typhus exanthematicus" was first published in July 1915 in the Journal of Infectious Diseases. Authors were Harry Plotz, George Baehr, and Peter K. Olitsky.

History repeats with the new swine-avian-human flu' of 2009 , Mexican origin. That 1917-19 global 'Spanish influenza' killed many in N.Z, several thousand had a burial-memorial in Waikumete Cemetry , West Auckland .A third of the population of W.Sa'moa ,thousands, were lost from transmission from a sailing ship from NZ.

Wilson was the surgeon in charge of the federal quarantine station at Galveston. There was clearly a controversy between state and federal responsibility for inspecting incoming vessels.
