    I have heard some praise of the American Embassy from architects, though one did say he wondered how well it would wear. I have also heard that the original design sent over was toned down. A pity it isn’t a bit taller. It does seem a bit squat. The shape is at any rate more suited to the site than it would have been to many others one can think of.

    Some Americans thought at the time that the location was down market, lacking the prestige of Ailesbury Rd.

    Has turned into something of a fortress since Elinor’s photo.
    There was a time that you could walk across the grounds.

    Streetview (-ish) - goo.gl/maps/YKnT8RkQWB22 Inexplicable coincidence - the lad on the left is holding a 'BEAT CLUB' LP vinyl record, and the lock-gate arm they are sitting on now has the graffiti "YUNG KESMO ON A BEAT", which is some sort of musical reference. Is this a musical corner of Dublin? It is a beautiful canal bridge.
