John Allen Townsend (1862-1935) was married to Viola Sophia Hawkins (d. 1945), the daughter of lawyer Dexter Arnold Hawkins (d. 1886). They married in 1890, and had at least two daughters, Viola and Adeline.

Koreshan children at an Easter party in Estero, Florida

  • Florida Memory said:
This set features photographs from the Koreshan Unity Collection. The Koreshans were a late-19th/early-20th century utopian community founded in Chicago. The group, under the leadership of founder Cyrus Teed, moved to Estero, Florida in the 1890s. These photographs document everyday life in the Koreshan community, ca. 1890 to the late 20th century.
