I think it's time to shoot their general.

More like time to shoot the morons making fatuous remarks tagging these photos. Maybe they don't have enough intelligence to realize what they're looking at!
  • Jo Angus said:
I agree. It's like spraying graffiti on a tomb stone. The disrespect and ignorance is completely beyond me.

Cannot believe the photo quality in these conditions - tripods and plates, after all, not pocket-digi cams.

    wow! royal treatment! :D
  • Peter Mackey said:
this is very sad, the elephant is skinny, distressed and obviously underfeed.

The elephant is holding up its foot to have its shoe fitted. If it were distressed I doubt if the man would be too keen on having its foot resting in his knee. It is probably one of Bostock's famous elephants which all had long happy lives, and were very well fed.

Thw humans are sqauting uncomfortably, arduous labor to make an animals feet comfortsale. Wonder if they had decent wages and accomodations. Wonder if the humans were warm in winter and cool in summer tending to the animals.

Geo. Kimmel (LOC)

  • Nathan Adams said:
It's photos like this that prove why I love the LOC photo stream! Type George Kimmel in the NY Times archive and you get lots of hits! Apparently, he was a petty criminal who was hit on the head & lost his memory. After regaining it, his family refused to recognize him. query.nytimes.com/search/query?frow=0&n=10&srcht=...

What is the circle on the photo?
  • Ken Zirkel said:
    Probably where the impact occurred.
  • Laura Moncur said:
And then there was a whole trial about whether he was the real Kimmel or not. query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9B00E0DF1F31E233A...
