The fleet number "74" denotes this as United Air Lines' ill-fated Douglas DC-3 (DC-3A-197), registered NC16074 (c/n 1914). NC16074 was in service for a very short time after its delivery to United Airlines on December 1, 1936. The airliner would crash on October 17, 1937, with the loss of all 19 souls (3 crew/16 passengers) aboard, when it flew into the slope of Haydens Peak, WY on Humpy Ridge at an elevation of approximately 10,000-feet. See: www.lostflights.com/Commercial-Aviation/101737-United-Air... aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19371017-0 Pathe News lost an editor (William Harold Pitt) and a cameraman (James Pergola) in the crash, as noted in this British Pathe newsreel: YouTube - British Pathé - 19 Die In US Air Liner Crash (1937) Here is a British Movietone newsreel about the discovery of the NC16074 crash site: YouTube - British Movietone - Tragic American Plane Crash
