douglasa20

I think the Brits used it during the first part of WWII!

This was officially a Boston Mk II delivered sometime late summer 1941 and used by No 85 Sq RAF. Initially it was ordered by the French as a DB-7A, but since we have a solid nose (retouched here?) I would say it was a Havoc II Stig

According to The Aircraft Spotter's Handbook, by Ens. L.C. Guthman, published by The National Aeronautics Council, NYC, in 1943: US designation was A-20A (Boston) and British designation was Boston III. Douglas model was DB-7A. Powered by two Wright 1600 hp. Double Row Cyclone engines. The aircraft had a maximum speed of about 320 mph and could carry a 1000 lb. bomb load. Maximum range was about 1,000 miles. Wing span: 61 ft. 4 inches. Length: 47 ft. four inches. Height: 15 ft. ten inches. Gross weight: 15,000 lbs. The aircraft saw a lot of service with both nations in the North African campaign.

Ed This aircraft has never gone through the USAAF and cannot have had any USAAF designation (A-20, A-20A etc). It certainly is no Boston III which had a glaced nose. and were ordered under Douglas designation DB-7B. Some Boston III were modified with a solid nose, but this is not one of them! AH525 is 100% a Havoc II Stig

Stig Jarlevik Stig, Not my area of expertise. I'm just responding to the museum's request for information. It was strictly based upon the info in the cited book. Just throwing in what information I had available at the time. Outside of a museum, I've only ever seen one A-20 (Confederate Air Force show at Brownsville, Texas, 1988) and that one crashed and burned, within an hour after I saw it. Ed

An A-20 Havoc equipped with a bomb bay drop tank (364 gal.). Its engines are covered in blankets and hooked up to a hot air engine pre-heater.
