The Picture is taken after the formation of the Swedish Air Force on July 1st, 1926. It kept its permanent Army serial number 149. The first digit indicated building year in the Army (1925 and hence 5149) while the new digit 3 indicated its belonging, in this case tredje flygkåren (3rd Wing), hence 3149. In about May 1927 it recived a new serial number 066 and was written off on April 11th, 1929. Stig

Dear Sirs, This is one of 20 Phönix D.III, which were built by the Austro-Hungarian Phönix Flugzeugwerke AG in Vienna-Stadlau and sold in 1920 to Sweden.

Michael Schmidt I must have missed your response Michael. Sorry about that. I'm afraid you are wrong and Yavor completely correct! The aircraft you are thinking about had permanent number 49 and carried the marking 949 with Flygkompaniet (Army Air Service). That aircraft was SOC before the formation of the Swedish Air Force in 1926. This is a Swedish built (FMV) aircraft with permanent number 149. See my explanation above. Stig
