The von Kirchbach auf Lauterbach family seems to at least two candidates to be the right-hand officer: Johann -- www.oocities.org/veldes1/jkirchbach.html Karl -- www.austro-hungarian-army.co.uk/biog/kirchbach.htm Harry www.geocities.com/~Orion47/WEHRMACHT/HEER/Generalleutnant... was too young to be the man pictured here.

Karl, as pictured in commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:GdK_Karl_Freiherr_von_Kir... looks slimmer than the guy here, but a heavy coat can bulk you up. www.austro-hungarian-army.co.uk/portraits/jkbach.jpg, which is apparently of Johann, looks more likely as a match.

swanq: I agree with your identification of Archduke Friedrich (man on left) as the photos seem to match. Von Kirkbach (Kirchbach) is more difficult, but it does seem like the Bain image portrays Johann and not Karl. We will include it in the record with "probably" until more information turns up.
