This picture shows the amphibian version of the Albatros Renn-Eindecker (RE) - German for racing monoplane. This floatpplane version had wheels which could be retracted. As prescribed in the rules of the German Bodensee seaplane contest 1913 the machines had to start from land and land on water. Hence this amphibian construction. The name of the Albatros firm can just be seen in the biggest scan on the side of the fuselage. The design of this machine was by the young and brilliant Ernst Heinkel, then chief designer of Albatros. Reproduction Albatros DVa on floor, Nieuport 28 behind (mostly blocked). After much respotting, decision was made to 'tail' the two planes together in the center of WWI exhibit, sandbag them in, allowing visitors views of front, side and rear. (Only first layer of bags is down...still playing with the layout.) Original Curtiss Jenny suspended on right. 80% scale DH-2 suspended left.

An Albatros C.VII fom the long series of Albatros C-type designs [C.I - C.XV]. Characteristic side mounted ear radiators for the cooling of the six-cylinder Benz Bz IV (260 hp). This is serial C 2197/16 from a series of 100 ordered in July 1916 with serials C 2174/16 - C 2273/16.
