    The date is scratched into the negative along the lower right side: 8/2/13 (reversed). The same date appears in the companion photo along the lower left side.

    August 1913 saw the reformation of the taxi hacking industry in NYC. A new public hacking ordinance was introduced to abolish private cab stands and reduce taxi fare rates. The new ordinance went into effect at 0000hours on August 1, 1913. A new style of taximeter was also required adjusted to register the new rates of fare.
