Cheap partly-constructed houses lacking water and sewage, Lockland, Ohio (LOC)

  • Jim Rees said:
Interesting how even a cheap house back then could have two chimneys, dormers, soffits, porches, a front door, and other architectural details often considered superfluous today.

Chimneys would be necessary for whatever heating device was installed - while you can get away without indoor plumbing, you still have to head the place somehow. As for the doormers, I suspect it would be so that those sleeping in the attic might have some sort of illumination.
