I have a set of dinner plates of Theodore Haviland 'Limoges' France with the stamp of this store on the back - it reads: Gilman Collamore & Co. Fifth Avenue & 30th Street, New York. They are lovely and obviously antique.

The SS Adriatic referred to was more likely the RMS Adriatic, a White Star Line ship that ran from Liverpool (and Southampton, for a time) in England to New York from 1907-1933.

Also, in checking the ship's manifest on EllisIsland.org, it looks like Sherman misspelled his name. The manifest lists an inquiry being held for Thumbu Sanmy, age 17. He may have arrived with a relative, since the manifest also lists a Perumal Sanmy, age 18.

    Aw shucks.

Actually, my father's family came through Ellis Island around 1921, so I was already in love with their web site before I saw these photos. Being able to contribute information here is just the cherry on top.

So much dignity and elegance in her face. She is very beautiful. I wish I could see her clothing in color.
