Person: James Otis Crandall (October 8, 1887 – August 17, 1951) was a right handed pitcher and second baseman. He was the first player to be consistently used as a relief pitcher. Consequently, he was given the nickname Doc by Damon Runyon who said Crandall was "the physician of the pitching emergency". He played from 1908 to 1918, first for the New York Giants, and then briefly for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1913 and than the Federal League with St. Louis from 1914 to 1916. Person: Frederick Carlisle Snodgrass (October 19, 1887 - April 5, 1974) was an American center fielder in Major League Baseball from 1908 to 1916 for the New York Giants and the Boston Braves. The closes thing to Major League baseball to us was the Cardinals and the Browns. I guess that why we could get their broadcasts in my home town of Dallas, Texas, back in the early 1940's. If my daddy could have a team then i could pick my own. There was a baseball board game made by caddco Ellis(SP) called baseball allstar game. I saw a card with the name Johnny mize. He became my hero. He was a giant. I read and reread the history of the Giants. nammes like Christy mathewson,and Frankie Frisch. Mell ott and the great left hander Carl Hubbell. I was hooked. A Texas boy was a Giant Fan!
