Wow. I like the patchwork head scarf. Beautiful image of a hard working woman. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batangas Today, Batangas is in the Philippines. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cotton_gin The original invention seems to derive from India, and the original word "gin" in this context seems to be a Hindi word. Not much useful info readily found.

Vehicle reg (996) doesn't indicate anything exotic. (WI 1 to WI 9999 were issued for vehicles registered in Waterford with between Jan 1904 and Jan 1966. So consistent with date/location).
According to this website, the patent number which beachcomber australia has highlighted is the patent which Cotton received for the style of frame. (Which the ads linked from that website describe as a "world-class triangulated frame".) -

Ouch! Somebody got hurt real bad if the front rim is anything to go by. Maybe this shot - was taken in support of an insurance claim.

Thanks all! We hadn't quite realised that we'd posted this one previously - great that the higher resolution (and new megazoom) allowed for the patent number/etc to be picked out. We shall (hopefully) explore entirely fresh ground tomorrow....
