A description of New Street in the Skibbereen & West Carbery Eagle; or, South Western Advertiser - Saturday 06 November 1869
Looking into New-street Vickery's Hotel augurs comfort to tourists and commercial travellers. Analizing the business part of this street we find its three-fourths "fire-water" or that element of alternate mirth and strife or what devotees of the shrine of Bacchus would endorse in the poet's words: "A little drink intoxicates the brain But drinking largely sobers it again"
Sounds like a good venue for a pub crawl, with a good chance ofstrifea fight to finish the evening. -
