    Looks like Lajoie. I note that the batter is wearing a Cleveland jersey, too, whoever he is. Did the Yankees not show up that day? (I know, judging from the crowd, that it's probably pregame batting practice. Or just a staged shot.)

    Back in the days, most ALL ballplayers worked between seasons...back when sports were sports, not businesses.

    That's a railroad baggage wagon for passenger trains. My job during the mid-sixties was baggage man / mail handler for the IC and the wagons were the same then too.
