Newcastle is quickly losing its small privately owned specialist shops in favour of the bigger sites. A shame that because the diversity in the city was very special..

late 70's possibly the construction of the Haymarket Metro Station

The sculpture was removed from the top of the South African War Memorial (on the left of the picture) while the construction work was in progress.

It's a good view of the City Pool and City Hall at front left and the Hancock Museum at the top left of the Civic Centre too

So much of that view subsequently demolished but a great shot - plenty of folk enjoying the Exhibition Park.

Crikey. I didn't realise it took so long to build the Civic Centre. I can't see Jim Merrington sat in his Tyne Brewery office.

Power station beside the brewery? Or could it simply be a large boiler house for the brewing process??

If your talking the building with the two chimneys on Corporation Street, I think it was something to do with the brewing. You Could look in the windows as you walked past.
