Not a hotel room -- this was a gym where boxers trained. Ledoux is demonstrating a technique from savate (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savate), specifically a coup de pied bas. It seems as if he is doing it from a false guard, similar to instructions for this technique given in “La Defense Dans La Rue” by Joseph J Renuad, published in 1912 (defensedanslarue.wordpress.com/skills/the-street-kicks-of...).
