Enrico Caruso (1873-1921), the world-renowned Italian tenor (including more than 800 appearances at the New York Met), was in the audience when seventeen year-old Stella Carol made her singing debut at Colston Hall in Bristol in the West of England.

After her debut, Signor Caruso predicted a "brilliant future" for her.

There were several variants of this pose that were printed on postcards to promote Stella Carol. Many of the postcards were captioned "A new fairy tale in real life".

Caruso with phonograph (LOC)

A nice looking colorization of this photo:

Identified as Enrico Caruso with a customized "Victrola" phonograph- a wedding gift in 1918.
I haven't found a contemporary source identifying the Victrola in the picture.

Thanks Art Siegel. Good to know the details of the phonograph. We will add more information to the description.

The [New York] Sun., May 25, 1919, Page 11, column 5. chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn83030431/1919-05-25/ed-... reported that Enrico Caruso and his bride, the former Dorothy Park Benjamin, sailed yesterday for Genoa on the Giuseppe Verdi.

Thanks swanq, we'll fix the date and update the catalog records of the Caruso photos.
