Felix Tony McWhirter (1853-1915) was a banker from Indianapolis (born in Tennessee); also a newspaper editor, college professor, and politician. His wife was Luella Frances Smith (b. 1859) of Indiana; she served on the board of directors for the People's Deposit Bank, along with Sallie Lemon, another partner's wife--apparently they were the first two women bank directors in Indiana. Felix and Luella had three daughters and a son; both Felix and Luella were active in the Temperance movement. www.godeke.org/Psi_Phi/Ancestors_FelixMcWhirter.htm The Luella McWhirter Martin of Indianapolis in this story must surely have been a daughter (or granddaughter?) of the photo's subject: newground.iufoundation.iu.edu/articles/issue02/alt_layout...
