Josephus Daniels (1862–1948) was Secretary of the Navy during the Wilson administration. The North Carolina Democrat and long-time publisher of the Raleigh News & Observer also served as Ambassador to Mexico during the administration of Franklin D. Roosevelt. William Gibbs McAdoo (1863–1941) was Woodrow Wilson's first Secretary of the Treasury, serving from 1913 until 1918. In 1914 he married Wilson's daughter, Eleanor. A native of Georgia and graduate of the University of Tennessee, he had a business career in New York prior to his service in Wilson's cabinet, and after leaving the administration he eventually moved to California where he was elected to the U.S. Senate, serving a single term beginning in 1933.
