By coincidence (or design?), this photo was taken shorty after Edmund Resch, the owner of Resch's Waverley Brewery, died on 22 May 1923.

This is Day Street, where part of the Western Distributor now is, showing the rear of the "Exchange" Coffee Palace (left) and the rear of the Bristol Arms Hotel on Sussex Street. Earlier view of the back entrance to the Bristol Arms Hotel: Later view: Eastern side of Day Street between King Street & Erskine Street (1978) [CSA: NSCA CRS 700/338]

I'm really excited to see these images of the Bristol Arms, I hadn't seen them before. They knocked down the Day Street half of it when they built the expressway I think. But the front is still there - it's a bar called the Bristol Arms Retro Hotel today: www.theretro.com.au/

pellethepoet Thanks for your research, we have amended the caption. Odd really that this image arrived to us titled "Reschs Waverley Sparkling Ales shop". Nicole Davis Thanks for adding the link to the modern day bar of this old pub. AB
