Born Anne Victorine Savigny (1845-1916), French clairvoyant who published annual predictions about world events (and claimed credit for predicting the Boer War, and the Caillaux affair, also featured in this week's uploads!): fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madame_de_Thèbes en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henriette_Caillaux

Good example of "Out of Bounds" framing technique.

pennylrichardsca, Thanks for the info on Mme de Thèbes. What an interesting character! And what a fun connection between her and her claimed predictions in the week's Flickr set!

Overton Bowndes (LOC)

The name inscribed on the photo is spelled incorrectly. This is a photo of aviator Overton M. "Rusty" Bounds (b. 1895 - d. 1942). At the time this photo was taken, Bounds was an instructor at the Army Aviation School in Mineola, Long Island. Sadly, Overton Bounds would die in 1942 as a result of being fatally struck by a taxiing aircraft's propeller at Cimarron Field, near Oklahoma City. See: earlyaviators.com/ebounds.htm

This seems to be the same plane pictured on the earlyaviators.com page with the caption "Joseph Cato built this first stunt plane for Rusty Bounds, 1915-1916."

TVL1970: Thanks for providing the correct spelling of this aviator's name. We'll correct the catalog record when we update.

artolog: Thanks for the information about the airplane. We'll add it to the catalog record when we update.
