Maybe Faith Baldwin (1893-1978), prolific American writer: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faith_Baldwin But this photo would be from before her first novel was published (1921). Here's a picture of the author later in life: news.rollins.edu/07annieresearch.shtml

Baldwin's Ermine, a white bulldog bitch which won its class in April 1915 as reported in the NYT at query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9505EEDA123FE233A... and also won awards at the April 1914 French Bulldog Club of America Show as reported in query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=940DE7D81E39E633A... Another photo in this batch is also of a winner at the April 1914 show -- www.flickr.com/photos/library_of_congress/2969683724/ However, I suspect that the same dogs featured in many shows. Can anyone confirm the location as being the Hotel Astor?
