Sir Knights of Damascus Commandery most likely this photograph would have been taken in Minnesota.

This is a picture of a group of Shriners (an offshoot of Freemasons) and their shrine was called Damascus. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to research where they were (and probably still are) located.

That child appears to have an artificial leg.

I think this is actually Henry Clews III who is mentioned as returning from school in France in 1911 in this New York Times article: query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9C05E5DB1438E033A... His grandfather, the financier Henry Clews, Sr gives this marvelous statement, "The time is coming, when Americans will appreciate their beautiful country and not rush to Europe to be fleeced by cringing waiters. My little grandson is receiving his early education in France, but he will soon begin in his own land, and will, I hope, make a sound American citizen."

Henry Clews' statement says so much more than he intended.

In the NYT article referred to by j3net above, it also states that Henry Clews III wasnot listening to his Grandfather, but rather busy guarding the family parrot, Mrs. Gray.
