Biddle was a member of the Lafayette Flying Corps but not the Lafayette Escadrille.

Mrs. Nicholas Biddle née Sarah Lippincott (1894–1962), was a daughter of Joshua Bertram Lippincott (1857-1940) and Joanna (née Wharton) Lippincott (1858-1938). One of her grandfathers, Joshua Bertram Lippincott (1857-1940), founded the J. B. Lippincott & Company, publishers, and the other, Joseph Wharton (1826-1909), founded the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, co-founded the Bethlehem Steel company, and was one of the founders of Swarthmore College. On February 11, 1915, she married Nicholas Biddle (1893–1977), son of Edward Biddle III (1851-1933) and Lillian Howard Lee (1862-1946). He graduated from Princeton University in 1916 and went into the insurance business. Nicholas served a lifelong term with the National Guard, was active in both World Wars, and his service with the Army reserves earned him the rank of Brigadier General. Nicholas Biddle was a well-noted, big-game hunter and was commissioned to travel the world and bring back specimens; some of his ‘trophies’ still reside at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University. Nicholas and Sarah had three sons, Nicholas Biddle, Jr. (1917-2013), John Scott Biddle (1925-2008), and Wharton G. Biddle (b.1928); and two daughters, Sarah Lee Biddle (Mrs. William F. Stokes, Jr.) (1921-2014), and Joanna Wharton Biddle (Mrs. Lewis Johnson) (1915-2008). Presuming the publishing date of c.1915, Mrs. Biddle is likely holding her daughter Joanna. swanq : Truth is, I have no clue ;) so using the dates of the neighboring photos is probably better than using a circa date! I'm also *not* the go-to person for recognizing baby clothes to give a clue to the baby's gender;) I couldn't find any published photos of this photograph looking through Chronicling America, etc.
