Hmmm. "The Danites" (on the poster extreme right, if I've read it correctly) was a popular theatrical production advertised in the theatrical newspaper The Era at many venues between 1880 and 1900 (mostly 1880s). So I suggest that the picture is near some popular resort with a theatre.

The notices for The Danites in the Manx press were all in 1884. This is the first in The Isle of Man Times and General Advertiser (published in Douglas) on Saturday, July 05, 1884

John Spooner Good call! The lighthouse was rebuilt in 1892, which explains the difference in windows etc, and helps confirm the date. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_Head_Lighthouse A tram-ride away from Port Soderick -

Having rushed away to see what was happening in the photostream I am back to this wonderful photograph of fashions and finery! Superb shot and look at all the leg that young lady was showing on the ladder?

Swordscookie You certainly wouldn't have wanted to be a shy and retiring type, with so many people watching you venture out in your bathing costume!
