My Grandfather and grandmother would have known this shop as "daddy Curtis's".
  • CailinDeise said:
Daddy Curtis was a pharmacist who catered for the poor people of that area of Waterford city. He was a lay preacher in the Baptist church and a most genial and affable man. He was a herbalist who went out the country every week with his daughter to gather herbs for his medicines. She carried the herbs home in her small cart that was tethered to her pet goat.

CailinDeise What lovely "on the ground" information! Thank you. Now have a lovely picture of a goat-drawn cart full of herbs...

The photo title is mislabeled. It is the Rev. Clarence Virgil Richeson. He was executed May 21, 1912, for poisoning Avis Linnell, a former fiancee who was pregnant, according to news accounts.
  • The Library of Congress said:
Thanks both captainslack and lmharnisch! We'll fix the title in the source data and reload the description.
