Newcastle Co-operative building, Newgate Street, 1961

We've lost a lot of pubs in Newcastle over the years - I'm glad I managed to sample some before they went! One pub I sadly missed was The Egypt Cottage. Kick myself for missing that one.. One thing I've noticed from this set of old Newcastle pics is that the roads were in much better condition back then. The excuse that there's more traffic now doesn't wash when you see how busy it was back then too.

I've a question; When The Blyth News closed were you handed any old images from their archives??
  • Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums said:
Hi Paul, We weren't handed the images - it's just outside our area. Northumberland Archives might be able to advise you, though. Contact details on their website www.experiencewoodhorn.com/collections/.
