Charles Albert "Chief" Bender (May 5, 1884 – May 22, 1954) was a pitcher in Major League Baseball during the first two decades of the 20th century. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1953. Bender was born in Crow Wing County, Minnesota as a member of the Ojibwa tribe - he faced discrimination throughout his career, not least of which was the stereotyped nickname ("Chief") by which he is almost exclusively known today. If it's 1913 and the Polo Grounds, it's probably the 1913 World Series: www.seamheads.com/baseballgauge/year.php?yearID=1913&...

He also played in 1913 and 1914 with the Charleston Senators of the Ohio State Leage, a Class D league in the minors. Some of his Cleveland teammates were well known hitters, including Joe Jackson and Nap Lajoie. Both of which hit over .400 in 1 season.

Interesting to see this size of the catcher's glove.
