awww life is written all over his face ... still, I discovered one of my own ancestors in late 1879 was charged in the Old Bailey for "feloniously and carnally knowing and abusing Florence SERGENT a girl under 12 years" in his later years and I bet he looked just as world weary. Sort of creepy finding that in your family!

Also - it's interesting how flat caps have shrunk over the years. Nowadays they're barely more than a baseball cap but back then the rain wouldn't have touched your shoulders never mind your head!

LOUIS OFFIE: 1880-1931 Louis Ludovicum Offie, was born about 1880 at Port Louis, Mauritius. (A little island in the Indian Ocean, near Africa.) Apart from the photo, taken March 1907, I can't found anymore info of a crime. Later the same year Louis Offie married Sarah Taylor at South Shields. 1911 census, 90 Queens Road Jarrow, Jarrow, Durham. Louis Offie Head 31 Ship-Painter, Mauritius Port Lows Resident. Sarah Offie Wife 29 Durham Sunderland. His wife Sarah died on the 1st May 1912 at Jarrow, her burial took place on the 4th May 1912 at Jarrow in Durham. World War One, he served with the Durham Light Infantry and Labour Corps, which he received the British War and Victory Medals. 12th June 1915 at Jarrow in Durham, Louis married Elizabeth Potts. A son Louis was born on the 14th April 1917 a merchant seaman, who died in 1976. in 1937 he saved a boy from drowning report below. 13th July 1937 Tuesday Sunderland Daily Echo and Shipping Gazette JARROW RESCUE Young Boy Saved From Death in the Tyne A gallant rescue of an unkonwn young boy from the River Tyne last night was made by a 20-year-old Jarrow man, Mr. Louis Offie of 132 Queen's Road, who jumped into the river at Jarrow Quay Corner fully clothed and brought the boy, who was struggling in 15ft., of water to safety. Mr. W. Smith, an eye-witness of the rescue, spoke enthusiastically of Mr. Offie's action and said the boy appeared to have been gathering timber and had fallen in. after he had been rescued, the boy thanked his rescuer and walked away. Mr. Offie remarked that he did not think it necessary to ask the boy his name and address.

Stunned. He turned his life around - I think marrying helped him straighten himself out. With two weddings there will certainly be family members about - lets hope they see your research and see what a wonderful man he turned out to be!

That's great. We need to get as much info to the older photos because it'll soon be too late or difficult to find. Saving for future generations is what it's all about. :)
