The amalgamation, as it was called, marked the start of the decline of the narrow gauge. Its workshops were stripped of much of their machinery, and many of the tradesmen were transferred or became redundant. All major engine repairs were sent to Inchicore." Is (was) it a Narrow Guage Engine?

    I might say that it's probably a standard gauge loco, judging from the length, and the size of the pistons. I'd agree with Danny it doesn't look too good, probably been cannibalised for other uses. The C&L had much smaller engines, so I might assume this photo is probably taken elsewhere on the county, maybe in Inchicore, but where would involve a bit of detective work!

"Nos.5 and 6 were scrapped in 1925 and 1927. The others gradually lost their names except No.3 Isabel, which retained hers until withdrawal in 1949. No.7 had been cut up in 1945, but the remaining four lasted until the closure of the line in April 1959. No.3 has gone to the USA for preservation in working order near New York." Here is a route map, the western terminus being the coal mines at Arigna. Here is Arigna Station on OSI historic map There is a railway water tank by the roadside at Drumshanbo on Google Street View.     I love this shot, the two engines one, ready for its journey and pumping out the smoke while the other is standing there biding its time. I've been trying to locate the station on Streetview but the place has changed so much since 1959 I am struggling. I really would love to identify the two engines and establish their types and service!
