The assassination of the Archduke was the spark that started World War I. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archduke_Franz_Ferdinand_of_Austria Seen here posing with his children, Sophie, Maximillian, & Ernst.

Sophie was born in 1901, and Ernst in 1904. My guess is that the photo was taken between 1911 and 1913. www.btinternet.com/~J.Pasteur/Family.html has some pictures that could have been taken at the same time. The children are in the same outfits as far as I can see. Unfortunately the pictures are not dated. I found the same picture at news.webshots.com/photo/2045053910100532270PzIgGf -- also not dated. The other version has a printed caption and looks to be a page from a book.

Quite so. He escaped with a submarine to Argentina. But some will have it, that he was a croupier in a French casino, continually shouting: "Rien ne va plus!"
