    "WASP" refers to the "Wrap-Around Surface Project" where configurations were tested at subsonic speeds with the objective of investigating the aerodynamic feasibility of using a bank-to-turn configuration for missiles incorporating wrap-around wing and tail surfaces. The relative effectiveness of curved versus planar surfaces was evaluated. This work was performed using the Convair / General Dynamics High Speed Tunnel (Convair HST) by Eddie F. Lucero (E.F. Lucero) of the Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) at The Johns Hopkins University (JHU) in 1975. The model and drawings photographed were used in these studies.

    The claim of sinking a submarine has since been debunked. At the time, the crew only claimed to have wrecked the periscope and conning tower. The sub in question seems to have been UB40, which survived to the end of the war when it was scuttled in the evacuation of Flanders. The US Navy does not claim a sinking.
