This is so good! The Sydney Morning Herald photographer was in that biplane on Wednesday 18 December 1935 - SMH 19/12/1935 p.14 - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/17231756 . The biplane belonged to Mr H. C. Durant. Somewhere nearby is the Motor Liner 'Malaita'. What a great photo of sail, steam, and air travel together
  • Dru said:
very lively picture! _the aircraft is a Gipsy Moth, I'm fairly certain.
  • beachcomber australia said:
Dru I think you are right. There are several contemporary newspaper articles referring to Harold Durant's Moth.
  • Australian National Maritime Museum on The Commons said:
Dru beachcomber australia Thank you for the information both of you! Our records have been updated, and we have added a story about Harold Durant in the description above. Enjoy :)
