    Location is about 51.5223° N 3.4403° E. The wooden structure on the left is a large groyne (wooden posts to prevent sand being washed away from the beach) officially called “Zuiderhoofd” but better known locally as “’t Grôôt Ôôd” (or in standard Dutch: “het Groot Hoofd”).

The U.S. Marines salute the U.S. Coast Guard after the fury of battle had subsided and the Japanese on Guam had been defeated. "They (the Coast Guard) Put Us Here and We Intend to Stay" is the way the Marines felt about it., ca. 08/1944.
