  The Sailor in the photograph is armed with an M1917 rifle. M1917 rifles were produced by Eddystone, Remington, and Winchester to supplement the M1903 rifles which were in short supply when the United States entered into World War II.

  The 36th in 1917 was composed of both the Texas and Oklahoma National Guard. That's why the divisional patch is composed of an arrowhead (Oklahoma) and the letter T (Texas).
