Alexis Carrel (1873-1944), French surgeon and eugenicist, won 1912 Nobel Prize in Physiology: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexis_Carrel His wife was the former Anne-Marie-Laure Gourlez de La Motte. They married in 1913; she was a widow, Mme. de la Meyrie, with one son at the time. In the summer of 1914, while she was pregnant, she was stung by a bee and miscarried as a result of her severe allergic reaction. She lived into the 1970s.

The event was hosted by the President of the City College of New York Dr. John H. Finley. Perhaps the caption should read Dr. Finley not "D.R. Finley". Finley was the 3rd President of City College of NY, serving as President 1903 to 1913.
