Author of (among other works) the novel, "Quo Vadis?" which was made into a 1950s Hollywood blockbuster. In 1905, he had won the Nobel Prize for literature, which is granted not for a specific work, but for the entire body of an author's literary achievement.

Alexis Carrel (1873-1944), French surgeon and eugenicist, won 1912 Nobel Prize in Physiology: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexis_Carrel His wife was the former Anne-Marie-Laure Gourlez de La Motte. They married in 1913; she was a widow, Mme. de la Meyrie, with one son at the time. In the summer of 1914, while she was pregnant, she was stung by a bee and miscarried as a result of her severe allergic reaction. She lived into the 1970s.

I remember reading about him in Feynman's books. This man was a boy genius, I think he was the youngest professor of physics at a major university in the US. He was gifted also in Math.
