article on the process of photochrom: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photochrom "Photochrom[Note 1] (also called the Aäc process) prints are colorized images produced from black and white photographic negatives via the direct photographic transfer of a negative onto lithographic printing plates."

The next print in the series is much earlier than this as Alexandra Hall has been constructed at the end of "the Prom", and other buildings in between have also appeared.

Alex Hall was built in 1895, so this photo post dates that.

Absolutely stunning collection of photographs - almost ethereal. The colour of that sea is gorgeous...

This pre-dates the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway (Rheilfordd y Graig) (built in 1896), a funicular railway which goes up Constitution Hill ('Consti') on the headland at the far end of Victoria Terrace (the row of sea-front houses). But apart from some later quarrying into the hillside near where the railway is now, and of course the bathing machine and the people in the foreground, this scene has scarcely changed. Compare it with a similar shot used on the Cliff Railway website (www.aberystwythcliffrailway.co.uk/).
