I think it is 'Major Lushington' on the far left with the tache. See catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000036301

think your right......http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Waterford/Waterford_Urban_No__3/Barrack_Street/1764084/ On original it says head of house in Barracks return. Of course it doesnt explain the presence of the maid
  • Richard Cowdell said:
This is certainly a most intriguing photograph! The maid/nurse has got a certain knowing 'come hither' look about her and the gentleman in the middle looks very cocky, self assured a bit of a 'cad'. Whichever way you look at it and how you interpret it, it's a fabulous photograph. Thank you for posting it.

Handball was still widely played when I was in primary school (to late 1960's) and by the end end of the 70's hardly played at all! Stuart.

Dating yourself there, Retro Stu! But do you have any idea where this one might have been? Have our Twitter spies on to it already, but would love to be able to add this to our Flickr map (and add info to the original catalogue record)...

We played handball until early 1980's

This reminds me of an handball alley we used to go and play at when we visited Ballynacargy, Co. Westmeath every summer as a child (80s to 90s)...the angle definitely made me do a double take...

So what happens next Carol? Another 12 months of photos? It has been very enjoyable, and although I didn't come on board until fairly late into the project it has been a pleasure to help with! Three cheers for Carol!

Really enjoyed seeing your postings---hope it doesn't stop there! It wouldn't have to match the date; but surely when details are volunteered it greatly adds to the history of the image and where it was taken - for posterity!!

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/resel/] Colin [http://www.flickr.com/photos/bellster//] Wendy: Strongly Agree. By the way quite a few of the men appear in both photos. Perhaps Brylcreem should be added as a tag!
