Wonderful image! The SS Yarra was built in 1883 in Marseilles, France, and sunk by a German submarine (UC-74) torpedo in the eastern Mediterranean on 27/5/1917. More info - www.wrecksite.eu/wreck.aspx?132094 .

Is that the Oyster Bar ?
  • beachcomber australia said:
Mich I think the Oyster Bar (ex public toilets) is behind to the left, and probably not yet built in 1906 The photographer (looks like John Degotardi Jnr?) must have been on top of the 1883 Hill Clark & Co. building -

The Fort Macquarie Tram Depot (R) was opened on 10 August, 1902, ceased operations 22 October, 1955 & was demolished in 1958 to make way for the Opera House which was constructed on the sight. Bennelong Point was originally a small island.
