The Queensland Junior Farmers' Organisation was established on 1 Nov 1947 (circa month) to provide post-school education to rural young people in order to encourage better farming practices and a better community spirit, and to discourage the drift to the cities, or "to train youth to live a fuller life within their community". Because of the educational emphasis of the organization, administrative support was provided by the Education Department. An Organiser was appointed who divided his time between Head Office and regional areas where Junior Farmers' Clubs were established. From 1947 to 1953 -1954 the Public Instruction Department maintained full control of these Clubs. In 1954 a State Council was established and an annual state conference was inaugurated enabling the organization to establish its own voice and a state-wide image and identity. The Education Department continued to provide funding, training, and advice. Following a national review and seminar, a name change common to all states and better reflecting the aims of the organization was adopted, and the Rural Youth Organisation of Queensland was established in late 1964 (circa month).
