The Queensland Junior Farmers' Organisation was established on 1 Nov 1947 (circa month) to provide post-school education to rural young people in order to encourage better farming practices and a better community spirit, and to discourage the drift to the cities, or "to train youth to live a fuller life within their community". Because of the educational emphasis of the organization, administrative support was provided by the Education Department. An Organiser was appointed who divided his time between Head Office and regional areas where Junior Farmers' Clubs were established. From 1947 to 1953 -1954 the Public Instruction Department maintained full control of these Clubs. In 1954 a State Council was established and an annual state conference was inaugurated enabling the organization to establish its own voice and a state-wide image and identity. The Education Department continued to provide funding, training, and advice. Following a national review and seminar, a name change common to all states and better reflecting the aims of the organization was adopted, and the Rural Youth Organisation of Queensland was established in late 1964 (circa month). Funnily enough, one of the men in this photo may be my grandfather Edward Charles Haswell who, in that year, left in one of the vehicles for Springsure to start the Ambulance station in that town. My mother was born there in 1923.

Since the establishment of the City Ambulance Transport Brigade (CATB) on 12 September 1892, the original intent has prevailed through time and that is providing care and support to the sick and injured in the Queensland community. By 1902 Queensland had transitioned from a colony to a state and the ambulance brigade had spread to a number of Queensland communities to become the Queensland Ambulance Transport Brigade (QATB). Each local center was administered by a QATB committee in conjunction with the State Council. The locality takes its name from the Walter Hall railway station, which was named on 26 November 1898 after businessman Walter Russell Hall, who was a major shareholder in the Mount Morgan Gold Mining Company Limited. Source; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walterhall

At the time it was really difficult to take a good picture with a cat and a child. Great work.

What a great photo - cats are notoriously hard to take photos of. I wonder if the photographer at the time needed to take more than one?

Hulda Helene Lundager (b.1888), was one of six daughters of the photographer Jens Hansen Lundager (1853-1930).

Later in life (1913) Hulda was a music teacher, and then (1922) a nurse at General Hospital, East Street, Ipswich. [1]
