The NIAH has an entry on two windmills: The Small Windmill The Great Windmill With the graveyard behind and no big mill, I think this is the Great WIndmill. Windmill, c.1750, on a circular plan, capped with a mansard roof having five spring sails. The tower 49 ft (c.15m ) Restored c.1995. ROOF: Slate mansard roof with five spring sails. This is the village of Irles, which was on the eastern perimeter of the Achiet airbase (4km west of Bapaume), where the 29th Troop Carrier Squadron was based from February 1945.
