The sky detail is usually removed from these pictures to allow them to be used as postcards, but the quality of work in this picture is very poor. Chect out around the bell tower and along the roofline.

Curtis the pawnbroker and his shop are mentioned in the Freeman's (March 2 1894) report of The Meath Murder trial (Warning: contains the word 'bosom')

James Curtis, pawnbroker, Drogheda, deposed that the shirt (produced) was pawned in his establishment by a man who gave the name of Gallagher. He believed the prisoner was the man.

He's used a faster shutter speed than the other lads. He has a few people in his picture.

Seems to be some sort of voodoo effect as well. All those cracks in the plate have made that hotel fall down: maps.google.ie/?ll=53.713574,-6.349218&spn=0.003645,0...

Worth comparing with this later photo from the early 20C

Isn't it great to see the old symbols of trade, the Pawnbrokers three globes, the barbers red and white pole etc. Simple and effective advertising though everybody could see you when you went in to pawn the Sunday suit:-))

ccferrie The yoke in the street looks a bit like one on the quays in this image.
