Note, there is incorrect spelling of the surname in caption. It's VARDAMAN. Correct spelling is also etched onto the negative. James Kimble Vardaman: bioguide.congress.gov/scripts/biodisplay.pl?index=V000070

Sen. James K. Vardaman of Mississippi, (1861-1930)served one term in the Senate (1913-19), was somewhat controversial for his stands (!) (pro-racism against US in WW1). Click Vardaman tag to see other photos of him (always with his black hat). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_K._Vardaman Sen. James Thomas Heflin (1869–1951), nicknamed "Cotton Tom," was a United States Senator from Alabama. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._Thomas_Heflin Ollie Murray James (1871–1918), a Democrat, represented Kentucky in the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate.

This photograph was almost certainly ttaken at the 1912 Democratic National Convention. See what I think is an associated photograph here: www.flickr.com/photos/library_of_congress/3239319120/ Note that Ollie James was the convention chairman and that the three men in the photograph are wearing convention delegate badges.

Thes pictures must be congressmen and the title after their names, must be the abbreviation of the state they represent. You can delete my comments if you want. Senator Vardaman has a bit of hair on the back of his neck that I would not have expected for this time period.

My grandmother is from Vardaman, Mississippi. I imagine the town must have been named after this man's family. He certainly seems to have had a sense of style that was pretty unique for his time. In another picture here, his jacket and hat stand out distinctly as compared to the other men with him. I guess the hair was part of that unique sense of style he seemed to have had.
