  My father served on the Penn on its last cruise of the war. He was aboard the ship when the ship was hit and this photo was taken. Have met several other vets over the years that were on other ships sitting in Buckner Bay when the ship was hit. Wayne of Jamestown, ND

  The location appears to be very Sydney Harbour, so not Port Chalmers. Is the ship Port Chalmers?

  Dale Yes! See the large size. Location - Athol Bight, see Macquarie Lighthouse left horizon and Kincoppal Rose Bay at centre. The photographer was possibly on Cremorne Point, see shrubbery at right. There seem to have been several SS PORT CHALMERS - I am betting this one is the 1891 ship, probably when she was quite new. Details - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/13856265

  beachcomber australia The latter SS Port Chalmers didn't have the graceful clipper bow and stern seen here. A Flickr aside, the comments work again, make life more simple.

  If you go to the original size image and then magnify the bow somewhat, you can make out dim letters that appear to read "PORT CHALMERS."
